Downwind run at 2017 Kickoff in the D Downwind run at 2017 Kickoff in the D

CRAM racers,

Welcome to the sailing season 2018! Some of our members have already been sailing, be it in Florida, or - the more crazy amongst us, here in really cold water in Michigan! Our first regatta at Crescent Sail Yacht Club is less than two weeks away. I hope to see many of you at the Kickoff in the “D”.

This season is fueled with enthusiasm and it will be a big year for several reasons! We have 9 CRAM regattas on the schedule including 2 entirely new venues:
  • After our annual stop at Lake St. Clair we will race the first time in New Buffalo (June, 2nd - 3rd) - a venue conveniently located right between CRAM and CRAW. Expect to see quite a few competitive boats from Wisconsin joining our Cat Fight VII. Vice Commodore John Nekus has put in countless hours to lay the foundation for this new event on the schedule.

  • Port Sanilac (August, 25th - 26th) is a new addition closely located to the Detroit Metro Area and also interesting for our friends south of Michigan. James Derck managed to secure camping directly next to the launch sites for us. This venue should bring another memorable CRAM event this season.

While writing this, I already look forward to the upcoming season! On top of it, the F18s fleet will have the unique opportunity to sail the 2018 Worlds at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron in Florida this fall.

Please plan ahead and register early for the events! For organizational purposes we moved the early registration discount cut-off a week earlier than in the past seasons. Even more important: Make your camping or hotel reservations now, especially for New Buffalo or Caseville (only Sleeper State Park has available sites left). Note, that we moved Higgins Lake a weekend earlier than originally planned (now September, 22nd - 23rd).

When registering for the Kickoff in the “D” in Detroit, please also consider donating to the Leukemia Cup. It is an option on the registration form. While it is impractical to sign up for two competing events, we still wanted to find a way for people to support this noble cause.

Last but not least, let me thank all of you who were working hard to plan the new season. CRAM is doing very well. This year it is remarkable how many new and young members are holding officer positions and showing their motivation to help.

Thanks and see you on the starting line!
