CRAM Racers

It is true, we are less than two weeks away from our first CRAM regatta!  Some of us couldn’t wait and were able to train or race in Florida before. Let’s hope the mild weather continues and we’ll all have a nice weekend to “Kickoff in the D” at CSYC May 13th/14th.  You can register here.

With 9 CRAM regattas we have a packed season ahead (Details here), including two new venues: Manistee and Boyne City!

In Manistee we will be able to park, camp, and sail out of Douglas State Park. We don’t even have to leave for dinner, as we will have a Taco Truck come by after sailing. Considering it will be mid-August as well, it should be a recipe for success already.

We are also returning to Boyne city with the Lake Charlevoix Regatta (August 26-27), where we can sail right out of Boyne City. A dinner in town with everyone is already organized and I am sure that boats can stay in the area to participate in the red fox regatta a weekend later. A big thank you to all involved making these new venues possible. Together with all the ‘classic’ venues we have a very interesting season of fun ahead of us.

Please also consider to participate in the CRAW Lighthouse Regatta August 5th/6th. CRAW will not charge starting fees for any boat from CRAM and camping is also free. I personally tested the venue and they host very good regattas and most importantly, throw excellent parties over there!

A few serious words:

  • Please sign up for membership as soon as you can and try to sign up for regattas as early as you can commit, as this will draw more boats.

  • Consider volunteering as we are a small group and there is a lot of work to make our regatta weekends successful. Many hands make light work, so everyone needs to step up. Let me know whether you could step in for something.

  • At the regatta, in an effort to make the lives of the volunteers who are doing registration more easy, we will strictly enforce the registration times which are now moved to 8:45 am to 9:15 am. The registration volunteers are sailors too and need to also get ready for racing, so please try to be courteous. To help, we are providing an option to pay on site with credit card for regatta fees, hospitality and camping.

With that said, let's think warm weather and nice breeze! First signal is May 13th, 11am. I hope to see many of you there to kick off a fun sailing season 2017!

Thanks,

Uli
