2018 Letter from the Commodore

CRAM racers,

Welcome to the sailing season 2018! Some of our members have already been sailing, be it in Florida, or - the more crazy amongst us, here in really cold water in Michigan! Our first regatta at Crescent Sail Yacht Club is less than two weeks away. I hope to see many of you at the Kickoff in the “D”.

2017 Letter from the Commodore

CRAM Racers

It is true, we are less than two weeks away from our first CRAM regatta!  Some of us couldn’t wait and were able to train or race in Florida before. Let’s hope the mild weather continues and we’ll all have a nice weekend to “Kickoff in the D” at CSYC May 13th/14th.  You can register here.

With 9 CRAM regattas we have a packed season ahead (Details here), including two new venues: Manistee and Boyne City!

2016 Kickoff in the D

CRAM typically starts the season in mid May at the Crescent Sail Yacht Club on Lake St. Clair near Detroit. Every year the organizers stay in close touch, anxiously watching the weather. In past years we’ve had to cancel the regatta the day before it started – especially because wind, air and water temperatures were matching. Think about that… ☺ This year’s forecast was not quite drastic enough to do so.

2014 Icebreaker

For a whole week I had been checking the weather every day - sometimes even multiple times. Jody, who was heading the organization of the 2014 Icebreaker, was getting tired answering the primary question of all participants: “Hey, with the weather forecast - are we sailing?”.

Saturday morning came and the weather forecast was pretty accurate: Winds around 24 gusting beyond 30 knots! The start got postponed for two hours.

2012 Bay City

Due to very adverse weather forecast, Bay City was cancelled for the weekend.  Unfortunately, our cats don't take too kindly to 30knot gusts!
